Fixed Wire Testing

Why do we need Fixed Wire Testing carried out?

Essentially, this is the testing of the electrical distribution system that carries electricity around your property. From the incoming mains supply, through the distribution boards, to every socket outlet and light fitting in the premises. The purpose of Fixed Wire Testing, is to inspect for signs of deterioration in the installation and determine if the installation is safe for continued use.

Fixed Wire Testing is a careful scrutiny of the electrical installation, to ensure the continued safety of persons and livestock against electric shock and burns, and protection against damage to property by fire and heat arising from installation defects.

For most commercial and educational premises, the standard recommended interval between tests is five years, subject to the recommendation of the electrician conducting the testing.

Licensed venues and those used for public entertainment require more frequent inspection and testing, subject to the terms of their licenses and requirements of the Local Authority.
